Along with the Child Care Attendant II, the Child Care Attendant I staffs the Children’s Rooms located in court facilities throughout Cook County. The Child Care Attendant I performs the following duties:

REPORTS TO: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, CHILDREN’S ROOMS OR DESIGNEE
Job Summary and Duties:
Along with the Child Care Attendant II, the Child Care Attendant I staffs the Children’s Rooms located in court facilities throughout Cook County. The Child Care Attendant I performs the following duties:
- Provides basic childcare for children up to age 12 when their caregivers are in court or otherwise engaged on the premises in court matters;
- Screens for visible signs of illness children whose caregivers seek the services of the Children’s Room;
- Reviews registration and other forms for proper completion, with particular attention to caregiver instructions relating to the child’s food and other allergies;
- Adheres to caregiver instructions relating to the child’s food and other allergies
- Provides caregivers with the Policies and Procedures of the Children’s Rooms and ensures compliance;
- Maintains the Children’s Rooms, including toys, furnishings, and equipment, in a neat, clean, and well-organized manner;
- Selects activities and projects for the children in his or her care that are age-appropriate, educational, and fun;
- As part of the childcare team, creates a welcoming, supportive, and atmosphere in the Children’s Rooms;
- Attends regular training and continuing education classes as directed;
- Performs such other duties as may be assigned.

Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or G.E.D., Associate or Bachelor degree in early childhood education or related field preferred;
- Bilingual in English and another language (Spanish preferred);
- Minimum of two years’ experience working in a childcare setting;
- Skills to help children meet their developmental and emotional needs;
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills;
- Reliability and dependability;
- Ability and willingness to work as part of a childcare team.
- Ability to move around the Children’s Room, courthouse, and elsewhere as required
- Ability to intermittently twist, stoop, and bend as required to care for small children
- Ability to perform simple grasping and fine manipulation
- Strength to lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds
- Ability to use a telephone and computer on a daily basis
