Company Overview

The Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center (JTDC) provides safe and temporary housing for youth ages 10 – 18 with pending legal action in the Cook County Courts. The JTDC is dedicated to providing its youth with leadership, structured care, and supervision through a balanced approach of creative programming and services that teach responsibility, accountability, and sensitivity. Each member of the JTDC staff is actively encouraged and supported in pursuit of creative participation, personal well-being, and professional development.
 

As the largest juvenile detention center in the nation, the facility contains five major departments and various offices consisting of 600+ employees who serve an average daily population of 280+ residents.


The Admission Release Specialist II will lead or guide Admission Release Specialist I and provide advanced logistical support to the Admission/Release Department, which is responsible for the maintenance of records, reports and all admissions/release duties. They will also provide and promote a professional environment to subordinates, in addition to meeting the needs of facility visitors. This position entails exercising discretion, sound judgment, and personal initiative to determine and implement the proper action oriented approaches to routine situations related to the Admissions/Release Department daily activities. The Administrative Admission Release Specialist II is responsible for ensuring that appropriate resources, supplies and materials are available to Admission/Release Departmental staff.   This position requires the ability to work various shifts, including nights, overnights, weekends, and holidays in a 24-hour facility.

Typical Duties
  • Reviews and assesses the completeness, accuracy, and overall quality of work performed by the Admission Release staff in the department. 
  • Communicates appropriately with members of the judicial system, outside community organizations, individuals and the public; maintain working relationships with these persons to support the work of the department; respond to all persons (including clients) with a high level of respect and professionalism.
  • Reviews incoming Police and Court documents to determine if documents are sufficient to meet the requirements for detention/release of the resident into and from JTDC and contact the appropriate agency for corrections as needed.
  • Acts as a liaison with court and other agencies, also address public relations concerns with a high level of professionalism.
  • Reviews and summarizes the content of incoming correspondences and materials, with close attention to detail and addressing inconsistencies with the appropriate JTDC departments.
  • Audits data entry and reports in the Resident Management Information System (RMIS) to confirm the accuracy, completeness, and overall quality of entered data and make the necessary corrections.
  • Operating knowledge of designated systems (CFIVE, Odyssey, RMIS, etc.) to confirm accuracy/clarity of court documents.
  • Ensures that the Admissions Board is reviewed daily for completion and accuracy; makes recommendations for corrections.  
  • Oversees the organization, security and maintenance of all department files/records according to JTDC policy and procedure.
  • Plans and conducts regular Admissions/Release Department staff meetings as directed by Admission Release Director.
  • Responsible for working admission/department; this will include, but is not limited to: following JTDC Policy and Procedure on admissions/release of residents, responding appropriately to questions from the public, and being exposed to residents being admitted and/or released from the facility.
  • Creates and maintains files, makes copies and answers phone calls/messages and addresses them appropriately.
  • Coordinates resident’s transportation needs with the appropriate units (Sheriff Dept. or JTDC).
  • Prepares routine and impromptu reports for Admission and Release Director.
  • Ensures that staff members print and distribute daily reports for designated departments of JTDC and Juvenile Court.
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality and integrity in keeping resident’s property secure according to policy; releases only the appropriate property to the resident or designated person.
  • Good attention to multifarious detail; ability to audit and edit the daily/weekly lists (Court/Appointment list, Admission list, Release list, etc.).
  • Fulfills the role of an Administrative Assistant II as needed. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. test certificate required.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in relation to area of assignment OR   an equivalent combination of education, training and professional work experience pursuant to acquiring the knowledge, skills and capabilities indicated herein preferred.
  • United States citizenship.
  • 21 years of age at the time of application submission.

  • Highly accountable, reliable, and prompt, with a strong work ethic.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Bilingual communication skills preferred.
Physical Requirements

Hiring Requirements
  • Illinois residency obtained within 90 days of date of hire.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check including but not limited to LEADS, CANTS, and professional references.
  • A result of negative from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Child Abuse Registry.
  • Must pass Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) screening requirements.
  • Must be able to work any shift at a 24-hour facility (includes evenings, nights weekends and holidays)
